Cam’ron:King Of Harlem

Cameron Giles was born on February 4th, 1974. However, he is better known by his stage name, Cam’ron. Cam’ron is an American rapper and actor who has been nominated for a Grammy award. He also founded The Diplomats, a hip-hip group also known as Dipset.Cam’ron was born in Harlem, New York and attending the Manhattan Center High School. It was here that he met his long time friends, Mase and Jim Jones. He showed great promise as a basketball player during his high school career. After high school (and without properly graduating) he managed to enroll in a Texan college. He didn’t stay there long, dropping out to begin selling drugs before beginning his rap career. Cam’ron began his career in music in the mid 1990s. His first accomplishment was rapping with a group called Children of the Corn. The band disbanded in 1997 after one of the members was killed in an automobile accident. Mase introduced Cam’ron to notorious rap legend, Biggie. Biggie was so impressed with Cam’ron that he offered to help him further his career. Cam’ron released his first album, Confessions of Fire, in July 1998. It included such hits as, “3-5-7″ and “Horse and Carriage.” The album earned gold status and made Cam’ron famous. Cam’ron released his second album in 2000 in collaboration with music executive, Tommy Mottola. He featured many other artists on this album, including: Destiny’s Child, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, N.O.R.E, and Digga. The album reached the #2 spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts. Cam’ron went on to make several more albums, all of which were met with enthusiasm and success. Holiday is reported to have met the offer with enthusiasm, so that is something for music enthusiasts and fans of Cam’ron mixtapes to be on the look out for. Cam’ron is reported to have said the following to DJ Holiday: “I could do a mixtape in three hours. Let’s stop talking and do it.”
